If They Had Known – An Important Event for Parents and Teens About Xanax and Benzodiazepines

#Xanax has been trending on Twitter and TikTok. Do you know the dangers of benzodiazepine misuse? More importantly, do your children? Join New Castle United for Youth and Greeley Student Assistance Counselor Carolyn D’Agostino to watch the short film “If They Had Known” and have a brief discussion on the topic. Bring your teen. Family connection and conversation are the most important way to help your child make good choices, including ones that can save their life or that of a friend or acquaintances.

The event will be on Zoom on Monday, April 12 at 7 pm. Preregistration is required. To register, use this link:

Many of us, and our teens, believe that Xanax and other benzodiazepines are “safe” because they are widely prescribed by doctors for legitimate conditions like anxiety and panic disorders. Misuse of Xanax can lead to tragic results. Combining benzodiazepines with alcohol, both central nervous system depressants, can lead to serious injury and even death. Yet it’s easy to find TikTok videos showing how to make a special drink containing crushed Xanax.

Do you know how easy it is for teens to access prescription drugs? Are you aware of the alarming rise in counterfeit prescription drugs laced with fentanyl? Do you know how to recognize the signs of prescription drug misuse? Are you aware that you shouldn’t stop the use of Xanax or other benzos “cold turkey”? Benzodiazepine withdrawal can cause seizures, which can result in death if not managed by a doctor. Have you had important conversations with your teen about prescription drugs and why it’s important to use them appropriately? Join us for this event and learn more on our website Xanax and other Benzodiazepines information page.
