Community Day 2021 was an amazing event! It was wonderful to see so many local organizations participating and so many community members enjoying themselves and learning more about all our community has to offer.
We were thrilled so many people visited us at our Community Day booth and helped us to create our visual representation of the importance of community connections. Our tally of participants included many sectors of our community – youth, parents, schools, faith, local businesses, civic and volunteer organizations, police and many other town workers and officials. The unofficial (we’re sure we missed some!) list – Community Sectors Represented by Community Weave – shows that more than 40 different groups are represented in our tapestry.
Thanks to everyone who participated, including those who donated the fabulous array of weaving materials in advance, Bobo’s and Scattered Books who hosted donation boxes, Chappaqua Paint and Hardware who donated materials and help construct the loom, the Department of Public Works who helped with set up and even stopped by to weave, the Rotary Club of Chappaqua and the Town of New Castle who brought us Community Day, teens on the NCUFY Youth Leadership Council who helped prepare materials in advance and helped out at Community Day and all of our weavers! Thanks also to Whitney Crutchfield of We Gather who helped us to bring this event to New Castle and to create this beautiful tapestry and to Ally Kuhn who served as our media and design consultant and documented the day through photographs and social media posts. Visit our photo gallery for some highlights from the day! We’ll let you know when the Community Day tapestry has been hung for display.
Missed us at Community Day or had so much fun weaving you’d like to do it again? Our sponsor activity at the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival will be a Children’s Weave to illustrate how everyone belongs and that something beautiful is created when we all come together and support one another.
